Villach to Bratislava
With our Eurail passes in hand, we headed for the station to catch the 9:14 AM train to Vienna. The trip from Villach to Bratislava had a change at the Vienna Hauptbahnhof and took 5-6 hours to complete the trip. Fortunately, we were in 1st class with only a few other people. This train did not have the more luxurious 1st class car as some of the other trains, just larger than normal leather seats. However, the OBB trains are some of the cleanest and newest in Europe. So, it was time to kick back in the leather seats and enjoy the ride.
Not long after leaving the station you begin to see the beauty that is southern Austria. Luckily, the route takes you along a lake with amazing views. Shortly after the lake, your scenery changes to farms and views of the countryside. This part of the route is filled with castles and small towns along the way.
User Error
I had taken several videos along the lake with my phone. However, while reviewing the pictures and videos I accidentally deleted the best ones. Unfortunately, I had mistaken the videos as a blurry picture, a rookie mistake. I have now enabled a trash bin on my phone to prevent my own stupidity from getting the best of me. Below are the 2 videos that I did not delete.
Slight Delay along the Route
Due to some rail line work, as we neared Vienna there were a couple of short delays. However, these delays only added about 20 minutes and did not prevent us from making our connection in Vienna to Bratislava. Although, we had hoped to have a little more time to grab a tasty pastry or another snack at the station. Unfortunately, the delay in our arrival prevented this from happening.
Train from Vienna to Bratislava
We boarded our train to Bratislava and were surprised that it was like a subway or local commuter train. Usually, international trains do not feel like a subway or local train. However, for the short 30-minute ride, it was comfortable enough. It appears that a lot of people live near Bratislava and work in Vienna and this is their route to and from work. We arrived in Bratislava in the mid-afternoon and immediately grabbed a taxi to the hotel.
